Week 22 · Emotions and self
Empathy
Empathy means putting yourself in someone else's place and understanding how they feel.
Why it matters
Empathy helps a child read other people's feelings from their face, voice and behaviour and respond with warmth. An empathetic child won't leave a friend alone when they're sad, won't make fun of anyone and cares for their loved ones. It can be learned in the family, from adults' example and everyday conversations.
