Fear of the dark
Fear of the dark is a normal part of growing up. Take it seriously and, step by step, help your child feel safe at night.
What you may notice
- Your child won't stay in a dark room and asks you to leave the light on.
- At bedtime they call you again and again, ask for water or say they're scared.
- They talk about monsters, 'someone' under the bed or scary shadows.
- They wake at night, cry and come to your bed.
- In the evening they stay close to you and are afraid to be alone.
