Hitting and biting

Hitting and biting are common at this age. Calmly stop it, protect the other child and teach your child safer ways to show anger.

What you may notice

  • Your child hits, pushes or bites when a toy is taken away or they don't get their way.
  • It happens more often when they are tired, hungry or in a crowded place.
  • After hitting, they look at your face to see what you will do.
  • Kindergarten staff say they hit or bite other children there too.
  • Afterwards they may cry or look upset themselves.
