Tantrums in young children

Does your child drop to the floor, scream and refuse to calm down? This is common at a young age: your calm and a few simple rules teach them to handle big feelings.

What you may notice

  • When they hear 'no', your child screams, cries or drops to the floor.
  • They stamp their feet, throw things or push adults away.
  • Tantrums start more often when they are tired, hungry or close to bedtime.
  • In that moment they don't hear any explanations or persuasion.
