My child tells lies

Does your child deny what they've done or tell made-up stories? Lies usually come from fear or a wish to please: make the truth safe and teach honesty by your own example.

What you may notice

  • Your child denies what they've done, even when it's obvious.
  • They hide or twist the truth about marks and homework.
  • They tell made-up stories in which they are the hero or the winner.
  • They put the blame on siblings or on 'someone'.
