Picky eating

Do you hear 'I won't eat that!' at every meal? Without forcing or bribing, gently help your child get to know new tastes, one small step at a time.

What you may notice

  • Your child eats only a few familiar foods and turns away from anything new.
  • They sniff the food, poke at it with a spoon and push the 'yucky' bits to the side of the plate.
  • They won't touch food if things are mixed together or look unfamiliar.
  • Meals often end in tears, arguments or long sitting over a full plate.
  • They ask for snacks and sweets between meals but say 'I'm not hungry' at the table.
